Jeff Galvin, CEO of American Gene Technologies (AGT), gives an inspiring talk at the Stony Brook University Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) detailing his journey from working closely with computers in Silicon Valley to leveraging the progression of gene and cell therapy for curing major diseases after meeting Roscoe Brady. Galvin credits a discussion with Brady about viral vectors as his inspiration for seeking opportunities to rewrite cells, which he refers to as the “human computers” of the human body, using gene programming and biotech.

In this educational talk, Galvin discusses AGT’s groundbreaking entrance into the first phase of clinical trials toward HIV treatment using gene therapy. He details an ever-increasing ability to edit genes with viral vectors and CRISPR through a continued understanding of system biology and genetics. He refers to Moore’s Law to describe the technological capability in the industry doubling every year, while the cost of technology halves, resulting in limitless possibilities for efficient and valuable solutions for humankind.

Topics covered in this video include: Stony Brook BMES, Biomedical Engineering, Stony Brook University, Biotech, CEO, gene and cell therapy, viral vectors, CRISPR, educational talk, inspiring talk, HIV, gene programming, technology
