We are seeking a Medical Technical Supervisor with hands-on experience in Lab Training and
High Complexity Testing activities. The CLIA team is looking for a dynamic self-starter in the
industry to work with the team as well as liaise with other functional team members in Research
& Development to support efficient laboratory operations. The position requires work in a
laboratory and handling biological specimens, which include the COVID-19 virus.
This is a full-time office-based position located in Rockville, MD and the Medical Technical
Supervisor will report to the CLIA Lab Manager and Administrative Personnel.
Full Description:
Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- Perform duties as a testing personnel in a CLIA high complexity laboratory.
- Performs laboratory procedures, quality control and quality assurance measures as
outlined in the Laboratory Procedure Manual. Tests patient specimens, correlates data
and reports result in a timely manner to affect quality patient care. - Follows lab procedures for specimen handling and processing. Performs lab procedures
in accordance with standards set forth in the approved Laboratory Procedures Manual.
Reports and maintains records of patient test results according to protocol. - Adheres to quality control and quality assurance procedures with appropriate and
accurate documentation. Follows laboratory’s established corrective action procedures.
Performs proficiency testing, reports result, according to protocol. Diagnoses laboratory
instrument malfunctions, performs preventive and corrective maintenance/repairs, and
maintains records of actions. - Ensures that lab standard of timeliness and quality of patient test results is met.
Recognizes unexpected or unreasonable results, identifies the cause, and takes
appropriate action. Brings unusual situations to the attention of the lab manager and lab
director. - Enters and retrieves information using the laboratory computer system where required.
- Assists in the evaluation and development of new procedures, methods, and
instrumentation. - Performs the responsibilities of phlebotomy, accessioning, and specimen processing on
an as needed basis to maintain efficient laboratory operations. - Assures that adequate department supply levels are maintained in a cost-effective
manner. - Assists in the orientation of new employees.
- Adheres to lab safety and infection control practices. Follows department and
organization dress code policies. Wears personal protective equipment where appropriate. - Applies professional knowledge and judgment to analytical and decision-making
functions. - Advises providers and clinical staff of correct procedures for specimen collection and
handling. - Maintains confidentiality of patient/medical information.
- Performs other related duties as directed.
Qualification Requirements:
- Master’s degree plus 1 year of hands-on experience in lab training or experience in high
complexity testing preferred. - Bachelor’s degree plus 2 years of hands-on experience in lab training or experience in
high complexity testing. - Required certification in any of the following: Medical Terminologist, Medical
Laboratory Scientist, Clinical Laboratory Scientist. - Ability to supervise up to 5 personnel.
- Training in approved NAACLS medical laboratory scientist program preferred.
- Experience in Infectious Diseases preferred.
- Excellent communication (oral and written), organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent Microsoft Office skills.
- High energy individual able to effectively multi-task and strive in a dynamic team
environment. - Strong attention to detail.
- Frequent standing, walking, grasping, and sitting, occasional reaching, bending, and
lifting up to 20 lbs. Frequent use of computer, keyboard, copy/fax machine and phone.Employer
